This guide covers the Krazy Larry microfiber styles: the P21 Microfiber Straight, P25 Microfiber Flare and P27 Microfiber Crop. All three are made from 92% polyester and 8% spandex. The care label says to machine wash cold and line dry. The tips below explain how to follow it and why it matters.
The short version
- Turn the pants inside out before washing.
- Wash cold on a gentle cycle, with similar lightweight fabrics.
- Skip bleach and fabric softener.
- Line dry or lay flat. Keep them out of the dryer.
- Hang them as soon as the wash finishes.
What causes pilling
Pills are small balls of fibre that form when friction lifts loose fibre ends from the surface of a fabric and tangles them together. With pants, this happens most in the wash and wherever the fabric rubs during wear, such as the inner thigh or where a bag strap sits.
To keep friction down:
- Wash inside out so the outer face is protected.
- Keep microfiber away from rough items such as towels, denim, fleece and anything with zippers or hook-and-loop fasteners. A mesh laundry bag helps.
- Use a gentle cycle and avoid overloading the machine.
- Avoid tumble drying, which adds friction as well as heat.
If pills do appear, remove them gently with a fabric shaver or sweater comb on a flat surface. Don't pull them off by hand, as that can draw out more fibre.
What causes wrinkles
Wrinkles set when a fabric dries or cools while creased. Leaving damp pants in a pile in the washer or a laundry basket is the most common cause. Hanging them promptly lets them dry smooth.
- Take the pants out as soon as the cycle ends and shake them out.
- Hang them by the waistband or fold them over a hanger to dry.
- If a crease remains, use a handheld steamer, or an iron on its lowest synthetic setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the fabric.
Why heat matters
Spandex gives these pants their stretch and recovery. High heat from a hot wash, a dryer or a hot iron can weaken spandex over time, and direct heat can leave a shine on polyester. That is why the label calls for cold water and line drying.
Storing and packing
- Hang the pants or fold them loosely along the leg.
- For travel, rolling usually leaves fewer creases than folding.
